When I moved to California after finishing my chief year in surgery at the University of Michigan, my plan was to be a pediatric surgeon. Most of us completing our residencies in surgery in the 1980s never considered trauma surgery as a career……it was just something you did when you were on call for the emergency room. To me and to many trauma surgeons around the world, the word “Trunkey” is synonymous with the word “Trauma”.
